What Do We Want? Universal Health Benefits.
And, according to the findings of the Citizend Health Care Working Group, Americans want them now.
The group, created by Congress in 2002 to gauge Americans' opinions on health care, is expected to report back this week and the findings will not be in line with the Administration's current health care initiatives. The group will report that Americans are looking for two things in when it comes to health care:
- Protection from from high medical expenses
- Guaranteed coverage for certain types of care
The groups findings are based on testimony from 6,650 people at 84 meetings around the country, and over 14,000 responses to an internet poll.
"Americans clearly want a system that guarantees health care for everyone," said the Citizens' Health Care Working Group, whose 15 members represent consumers, the disabled, business, organized labor and health care providers. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt also is a member.
The president and congress are expected to respond next week. To be continued . . .
